Famous Hollywood actor, Jim Carrey, announced that he is leaving Twitter. However, he seized the chance to promote his new cartoon. Carrey has around 19 million followers on Twitter, but he decided to leave anyways. His followers had a chance to see one of his earlier posts, where he mocked Elon Musk and criticized his takeover of the popular social media platform. Carrey called Musk Capt Smirk and focused on the fact that he fired half of his employees. On top of that, the brand-new CEO of Twitter is banning comics, as well as unverified users.

The actor made fun of the $8 fee the company charges for a verified account. Elon Musk tweeted that the monthly charge for Twitter Blue would increase to $8 and possibly include a bonus of a blue checkmark verification badge. This is an increase over Twitter Blue’s prior monthly price of $2.99, which was raised to $4.99 earlier this year.

Carrey’s departure announcement is not a surprise. However, the new animation project he worked on with Jimmy Hayward got the world interested, reported Complex.

The cartoon is based on a painting by Carrey that he has published on Twitter throughout the years. The painting shows a Lighthouse Keeper, a crazy old guy who stands naked while the storm is raging. He summons angels and uses his lamp to guide people out of the storm. The picture is now animated. Hayward posted the same animation on Instagram, along with some additional context about how it was made and the people involved in bringing Carrey’s artwork to life.

Hayward explained that his old friend, Carrey, wanted him to bring one of his paintings to life. After accepting the challenge, he hired musicians to write music to Jim’s singing. Hayward confirmed that Jim Carrey has left Twitter but thanked him for giving him his art and allowing him to use it as a parting shot.

UPDATE: his tweet url below has been deleted because he finally left after promoting himself.

Carrey is not the only one who is concerned about the fate of Twitter now when it is run by Elon Musk. Everyone is talking about Musk’s strange decision, firings, and price increase.

Twitter will stop enforcing a certain disinformation policy, and the decision has sparked fears among public health professionals. They are worried that this change can discourage people from certain things and worsen a certain situation.  Paul Russo, dean of the Katz School of Science and Health at Yeshiva University in New York, believes that the company’s decision to alter its strategy is a betrayal of its duty to its customers. According to Russo, Twitter’s most recent step may ultimately drive away users and perhaps advertisers. Some well-known companies have already halted their online advertising due to worries about Twitter’s future under Musk.Musk recently announced that he would “amnesty” Twitter-banned account owners.
